PA1-23354 detects Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus in Virus samples.
Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (BRSV) is a major cause of respiratory disease in young calves, contributing significantly to the bovine respiratory disease complex. As an enveloped virus belonging to the pneumovirus genus within the Paramyxoviridae family, BRSV contains a negative-sense, single-stranded RNA genome encoding 11 proteins. The virus infects both the upper and lower respiratory tracts and is primarily transmitted through nasal secretions. Closely related to the human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV), BRSV shares similar epidemiological and pathogenic characteristics, making it a valuable model for studying respiratory infections. BRSV infection can produce symptoms ranging from mild respiratory distress to severe pneumonia, often exacerbated by secondary bacterial infections. The virus is notorious for its ability to evade the immune system by modulating immune responses, such as inhibiting effective CD8+ T cell responses, leading to chronic and severe respiratory complications in affected cattle.
