GFOD2, or glucose-fructose oxidoreductase domain-containing protein 2, is part of the small GFOD gene family in humans, which consists of only two members: GFOD1 and GFOD2. The gene encodes a protein that belongs to the Gfo/Idh/MocA family of oxidoreductases, which are known for their diverse substrate range and utilization of NAD or NADP as redox cofactors. Despite the presence of an enzyme-defining domain, the exact enzymatic activity and biological function of GFOD2 remain unclear. Research suggests that these proteins may not exhibit significant tissue distribution or function, indicating a possible pseudoenzyme role.
