The KT3 tag does not correspond to a specific gene but is often used in biochemical and molecular biology research as a peptide tag for protein detection and purification. It is related to the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway, which is a critical regulatory network in eukaryotic cells involved in cell survival, growth, and metabolism. The PI3K (phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase) enzyme generates phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-trisphosphate (PI(3,4,5)P3), acting as a second messenger that facilitates the translocation and activation of Akt at the plasma membrane by phosphoinositide-dependent kinases. This pathway is frequently activated in various cancers, contributing to tumorigenesis and cancer progression by promoting cell growth and inhibiting apoptosis. Targeted therapies inhibiting this pathway are being studied for their potential in cancer treatment.
