Target Information
The LRGUK (Leucine-Rich Repeat and Guanylate Kinase-Like Domain Containing 1) gene encodes a protein that plays a critical role in male fertility. It is particularly important for the proper function of the manchette, a microtubule-based structure involved in sperm head shaping and tail formation during spermiogenesis. Research has shown that LRGUK1 is part of a multiprotein complex essential for the initiation of sperm tail growth from the centriole/basal body. Mutations or disruptions in the LRGUK1 gene can lead to defective manchette function, resulting in abnormal sperm morphology and infertility. This gene's role in spermatogenesis underscores its importance in reproductive health, with ongoing studies aimed at elucidating its specific interactions and mechanisms within the manchette complex.
