Western blot analysis is shown using Rocklands Affinity Purified anti-Swi6 antibody to detect endogenous protein present in S. pombe lysate (arrowhead). Comparison to a molecular weight marker (not shown) indicates a band of ~43 kDa corresponding to S. pombe Swi6 protein. ~35µg of lysate was loaded per lane onto a 4-20% gradient gel for SDS-PAGE followed by transfer to 0.45 µm nitrocellulose. Store vial at -20° C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20° C or below for extended storage. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4° C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.
BLAST analysis indicates that cross reactivity with homologues of this protein from other sources is not likely.
Target Information
Swi6 protein of fission yeast is a functional and structural homolog of HP1 (Heterochromatin Protein 1) of animals and is involved in the formation of heterochromatin structure by binding to centromere, telomere and silent mating-type locus. It is also involved in silencing the genes and sister chromatid cohesion by binding to histone H3 methylated at Lys9 and the cohesin subunit Psc3.
