The ZNF140 gene encodes a zinc finger protein that contains KRAB (Kruppel-associated box) domains, which are known to function as transcriptional repressors. These domains are located at the N-terminus of the protein and are involved in mediating protein-protein interactions, critical for gene silencing. ZNF140 is part of a large family of zinc finger proteins, which play significant roles in regulating gene expression by binding to specific DNA sequences. The KRAB domains of ZNF140 enable it to interact with other transcriptional repressors and recruit corepressor complexes, leading to chromatin remodeling and transcriptional repression.
