Which IC-MS to choose for your drinking water analysis: from perchlorate and inorganic ions to disinfections byproducts and beyond

In this on-demand presentation, we look at several water analysis methods routinely performed by drinking and wastewater facilities, from common anion and perchlorate determinations, to the analysis of disinfection byproducts, such as haloacetic acids (HAAs), bromate, and ionic pesticides.

We discuss recommendations for the best type of IC-MS, depending on throughput needs, and contaminant type, for each application: from a single-quadrupole IC-MS dedicated to the analysis of perchlorate, to more selective triple-quadrupole IC-MS/MS.

Alexander Semyonov, Thermo Fisher Scientific

Alexander Semyonov leads product management and marketing for ion chromatography-mass spectrometry systems at Thermo Fisher Scientific. Born in the USSR (now Russia), his interest in chemistry began early. By the time he was 10 years old, he had his own home lab, which eventually filled three rooms and included more than 1,700 chemicals. In the Soviet Union, Alex worked as a research organic chemist and Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry at the Saratov State University. He left Russia in 1998 and earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Physics at the Liquid Crystal Institute in the U.S. After setting up a Material Characterization Laboratory, Alex switched tracks and spent seven years traveling the Northeastern United States as a Senior Sales Engineer for Thermo Fisher Scientific. Prior to his current position, he was a mass spectrometry product manager and current leads the product management and product marketing of ion chromatography–mass spectrometry (IC-MS) systems at Thermo Fisher Scientific.
