Maximize your storage capacity with our higher-density 384 storage tube format. An entire rack of the Thermo Scientific™ Matrix™ 0.1mL tubes can be sealed by applying a foil-adhesive seal. Store the sealed tubes in the same freezer racks you would use for standard microplates. The proprietary barcoding process produces a permanent, high-contrast 2D barcode offering maximum reliability and traceability of compound, biological and genomic samples. (Note: We no longer sell a Sample Seal Heat Sealer).

Tracking:

  • A permanently-bonded, unique 2D barcode is laser-etched onto the base of every Matrix 0.1mL 2D barcoded storage tube to securely identify and track samples
  • Corresponding with a laboratory's throughput needs, Thermo Scientific™ VisionMate™ 2D barcode readers instantly decode each tube's 2D barcode
  • A range of VisionMate 2D barcode readers are available to meet your application and throughput needs
  • Scan the tube into any application or database, or integrate via various methods
  • VisionMate systems are flexible enough to allow 2D barcode data to be integrated into various applications, databases and automated systems
  • Once sample data is stored, user can scan the tube with the database
  • Tracking system includes a “find” feature to instantly access sample information and identify the contents of each storage tube

Superior Storage Rack Design:

  • Matrix 384-format 2D barcoded storage tubes are available in a proprietary specially-designed microplate footprint
  • Low-profile rack saves precious space in your freezer, refrigerator, compound store or on the bench top
  • The low-profile rack allows for 2D tube access with automated liquid handling systems and high throughput applications

Stringent Quality Control:

  • Every 2D barcoded storage tube is scanned to guarantee readability
  • Each code is checked against a full database of all previously assigned 2D codes to ensure zero duplicates across the entire line of Matrix 2D barcoded storage tubes
  • Every storage tube is leak tested to ensure the integrity and security of samples
  • Tubes are validated to be free of DNA, DNAse, RNAse, PCR Inhibitors, endotoxins and cytotoxins

Storage Tracking Solutions for any Laboratory:

  • Custom 2D coding options are available to meet your laboratory's individual database or tracking requirements
  • 2D storage tubes are compatible with Thermo Scientific freezer racks that allow optimal utilization of storage space

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Can I store the Thermo Scientific 2D barcoded storage tubes in standard 10x10 cryoboxes?

Yes, the Thermo Scientific 2D barcoded storage tubes can be stored in standard cryoboxes. However, we do not carry 2D barcode readers capable of reading a full box of 2D barcodes in this storage format.

How do you prevent 2D barcode duplication during manufacturing and ensure quality control of the Thermo Scientific 2D barcoded storage tubes?

The 2D barcode laser etching software includes algorithms that prevent the barcode generator from ever counting backwards, subsequently preventing the re-etching of any previously generated barcode. To verify the above procedure, several quality control checks are performed on the 2D barcodes including:
- Checking for light transmission through the barcode as light transmission will reduce readability
- Inspecting the barcode under magnification
- Reading the barcode on a full rack 2D barcode reader
- Checking the barcode against a database of previously etched 2D barcodes
As the above quality control steps are completed, defective storage tubes are discarded, replaced, and re-checked, ensuring that the 2D barcodes are 100% readable and have not been previously used. This quality control process is the reason why we cannot guarantee sequential 2D barcode printing within a single rack of 2D barcoded products.

Can the barcodes on the Thermo Scientific 2D barcoded storage tubes be damaged by chemicals or by exposure to extreme temperatures?

The Thermo Scientific 2D barcoded storage tubes have been subjected in-house to consecutive liquid nitrogen freeze-thaws followed by submersion in boiling water. These tests did not cause any damage to the 2D barcode.
The 2D barcodes are made of the same material as the storage tubes and are resistant to standard lab chemicals.
The 2D barcode has a built-in ECC200 error barcode correction, which ensures that a damaged barcode is still readable as long as less than 25% of the barcode is missing.
