Our portfolio of environmental chambers comes with a host of standard features that set them apart and deliver exceptional precision and usability. The modular design allows you to add features and functionality so your chamber is ideally suited to your application and workflow.
Thermo Scientific Environmental Chambers help you reliably achieve reproducible results by giving you precise control over temperature, humidity, and lighting. Temperature is set and maintained in 0.1°C increments within a 0° to 60°C range by an easy-to-use controller that displays both actual and set point temperatures (ramp and soak). Over- and Under-Temperature controls allow you to narrowly define acceptable fluctuations during daily use, such as with frequent door openings, and alert you when outside of set parameters. Relative humidity is also easily and tightly controlled within a range of above ambient to 95% RH @ 37°C.
Once the precise environment for samples is established, it is critically important that your temperature and humidity settings are maintained throughout the chamber. To provide better temperature and humidity uniformity throughout the chamber, the Thermo Scientific Directed Airflow System circulates conditioned air horizontally across the chamber. Positive and negative pressure plenums on either side of the cabinet walls help to maintain environmental factors more uniformly, even with heavily loaded shelves. Faster door opening recovery is also achieved, leading to better temperature stability in busy labs.
Vertical lighting systems, configured with modules specific to various applications, extend the versatility and capability of our environmental chambers. Select from modules that emit and control the exact lighting best suited for your experiments. Choose from high intensity UV lighting that meets ICH Q1B standards for light stability testing, increased red and blue emissions for plant growth and sunlight-mimicking systems for animal and insect hatching applications. Lighting modules are easily programmable to achieve exacting exposure control of your samples.
Light stability testing
A typical process to expose the samples with at least 1.2 million lux hours and 200 watt hours/square meter of UV-light will take less than 170 hours. The graph at top shows the range of the light spectrum inside the Vertical Light Stability Chamber Models 3942 and 3909 when set with ICH light modules.
Insect hatching
The light modules for insect hatching use bulbs that mimic daylight – ideal for the required day/night simulation. A dusk/dawn feature enables a progressive program that simulates the rising and setting sun. The graph at top shows the range of the light spectrum inside the Vertical Light Reach-In Incubator Chamber Model 3928 when set up with animal hatching light modules.
Plant growth
The light modules for plant growth use bulbs that emit increased red and blue wavelengths based on typical sunlight patterns. The graph at top shows the range of the light spectrum inside the Vertical Light Stability Chamber Models 3942 and 3909 when set up with plant growth light modules.
Setting the correct parameters is quick and easy, with simple, intuitive controls driven by PID microprocessors. Separate controls for temperature, humidity, and lighting make programming straightforward. Designed to operate on a “set-and-forget" format, our environmental chambers make it easy to run consistent experiments over time without resetting and repeated startup activities. Digital displays are easy to read and give you at-a-glance confidence that your chamber is operating within range, while simple over/under controls give you added confidence that your settings are being maintained.
Even when you are out of the lab, managing and monitoring your experiments is easy. Thermo Scientific Smart Vue Wireless Monitoring System gives you 24/7 access to your chamber data. Your samples are protected and your experiments are closely monitored even when you are away.
Well-balanced doors and shelves that slide out without tipping even when fully loaded are features that you might not appreciate until you don’t have them. Thermo Scientific Environmental Chambers are designed with decades of real-world experience to include these and other insightful features making them the smart choice now and one you won’t regret tomorrow.
Thermo Scientific Environmental Chambers are built to last. Cabinet exteriors are formed with 18-gauge cold-rolled steel for heavy duty strength, then powder coated instead of painted – a process more often used in outdoor product applications. Cabinet walls are equipped with either thermal fiber or environmentally friendly foam insulation for superior temperature regulation. Chamber interiors and shelving are made of high-grade, solid stainless steel for long-term corrosion resistance and ease of maintenance.
We know that some experiments produce exceptionally harsh conditions. Hatching fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster), for example, produces highly corrosive gases inside the chamber. We take the extra step of applying a protective coating on hidden components like refrigerant coils to ensure a long, dependable operational life with low maintenance requirements.
Thermo Scientific Environmental Chambers are designed in collaboration with researchers in labs like yours, yielding innovative features that support your work and making them more versatile and easier to use. Casters, access ports, convenience receptacles, heated glass doors (to reduce condensation), and remote alarm contacts give you an exceptional experience out of the box, ready for your experiments today and tomorrow.
Thru-wall access ports, located on the right and left sides of the chamber, make it possible to add probes, sensors, and other devices without altering the cabinet. Interior GFCI duplex receptacle permits the use of shakers, cell rollers, and other equipment inside the chamber. Exterior receptacle on the control panel is available for connecting an optional data recorder or other accessories conveniently.
Thermo Scientific Environmental Chambers are designed to give researchers reliably precise control across a wide range of temperature, humidity, and light settings. Choose from configurations that support stability testing, reach-in refrigerated and elevated temperature environments and vertical light chambers. With temperature control features that accommodate a 0° to 60°C setting range, our flexible use chambers are ideal for applications from plant and insect growth to pharmaceutical stability product and packaging testing applications.
Robust cabinet construction is combined with thoughtful component configurations that give you exactly the environmental chamber you need today, with flexibility to meet evolving application needs. Doors, shelving, monitoring systems, shaker support, and other options are configured to facilitate your specific application and how you work.
